CLAUS: HISTORY
Claus, as the only bloodchild of Desmond and Siri along with his brother, Lucas, was brought up in a loving though unorthodox family environment. Like the other children, Claus was taught to uphold positive traits such as loyalty to loved ones, honesty, and to help others. Claus was particularly exposed to this, being a mother's boy. However, he always struggled with containing his vampiric strength. He was often unable to gauge his own strength in relation to the objects around him. Siri unintentionally sheltered him for this reason in the hopes of getting this under control, and succeeded in giving him a normal range of sensory touch and gentleness. During this time, Siri also shared with him many of the precious things she'd experienced in her own lifetime. This helped Claus' unintentional destructiveness from a mental perspective, but also manifested itself in him as a strong sense of justice.
However, his narrow vision of the world at this point in his life made him unequipped to react to injustices in any way other than anger. When he began to encounter acts of corruption in his own surroundings, he began to have outbursts of fury and violence. His fits went unremedied for a long while, making him a hazard to others and himself; risking revealing that he and his family weren't quite natural.
He unwittingly involved himself in several fights throughout the course of his highschool years. Nazaire de Lune had to intervene often to avoid Claus raising suspicion, causing horrific damage to property, or hospitalizing those involved. Although Claus was able to get off with a few short suspensions and detentions, he did succeed in catching the attention of Noah de Lune. Noah urged him to become a sparring buddy (and test subject) for her small after-school fight club. Here, he met Noah's friends, Carol Hughs and Margaretta. Through breadcrumbs left by Claus' past fights and snippets of conversation between him and Noah, Carol caught on to Claus' secret. She later confronted him about it privately, and Claus decided to take no action against her unless she brought harm to his family.
Carol, curious about his physiology, began asking him questions about himself and other vampires, which he indulged her in. The two began speaking in private more often because of this reason, and Carol gradually began to reprimand him for his thick-headed mannerisms. Claus later began to receive tutoring from her in his studies, which he committed himself to for her sake. Through this mentoring and commitment, Claus unwittingly grew dedicated to Carol as a person as well, viewing her as his "companion", and began to seek her out from morning walks to school, to evening walks back to her home. Rumors and confusion began to spread between those around them in regards to their relationship, due to their close proximity on a daily basis.
After Claus misunderstood a request that Carol had previously made, he took her on a spontaneous out of town trip using his own personal funds. The two left so suddenly that they hadn't taken the time to alert their families, resulting in them both being scolded. Carol was grounded by her parents, and given orders to avoid spending so much time with Claus. In a bid to regain the approval from Carol's parents that Claus had lost, Carol staged a love confession between them in front of her family. Claus, having not been warned of her plan beforehand, became immediately frazzled and unable to speak or play along. To cover up his awkwardness, Carol gave him an impromptu kiss. Although her plan was successful, Claus was overwhelmed by feelings he couldn't understand. Genuinely mistaking his reaction for illness, Claus stayed home for several days before returning to school-- not wanting to risk "infecting" Carol with his "illness".
He conversed with her later about her plan, and reconciled with each other. Although Carol's intent had contained genuine romantic undertones, she kept this to herself and explained it away as being the simplest way to stop her family from pestering them. Although Claus accepted this answer, he was still left confused by the intensity and reasoning behind his own reactions at the time. This lead him to eventually request a second test kiss in order to pinpoint the origin of his own reaction. Frustrated by his thick-headedness but secretly excited, Carol (albeit in an embarrassed fashion) began to indulge Claus as he fumbled through testing various modes of intimacy. Claus eventually came to, realising how easily he could fall deeply in love with her in the state that they were in, and became completely love-stuck in a short period of time. After a few months of increased intimacy between them, Claus sought out permission from his parents to marry Carol, which was promptly approved. By the time that they were due to graduate, Carol admitted to Claus that she had fallen pregnant with their child. Having already dedicated himself to finding a way to live together with Carol as soon as possible, he took the news well, and later began to study baby care in order to alleviate as much strain from Carol as possible. He grew into a dedicated and capable father, but grew concerned about his relationship with his children as they grew older, fearing communicational gaps.
