MARMALADE: HISTORY
Katherine had an uncomplicated upbringing, despite her parents' divorce and her mother's tough-skinned attitude. Growing up alone with her mother, Katherine was granted a greater degree of freedom by her mother, since they had little money for home entertainment. Katherine took up sports during her childhood, and learned how to stick up for herself and others at a young age. But given the lack of other young females interested in sport, Katherine often had to mingle amidst large groups of boys to participate. After reaching middle school, she grew tired of the otherization she had to experience in such a large group of male peers. Instead, she turned to visual art for her early middle school years, but struggled to communicate with her female peers effectively. Katherine began to keep to herself more, choosing to bite down and bear her loneliness for the time being.
Over time, after a period of being bitter at her peers, Katherine began to enjoy only having a few friends. Since interactions with her peers usually ended badly, she grew to like the quietness that came with being alone. Katherine eventually dropped visual arts for books and martial arts, which she took with her into high school. Before graduating on to high school, Katherine's mother made the decision to move in with her boyfriend, who she had recently fallen pregnant to. Katherine got along with him decently after discerning his personality, and as time went on, the hairdressing business that Katherine's mother ran became more affluent. With the additional income, Katherine was able to attend Brazilian jiu jitsu classes with her mother's boyfriend. She continued with this throughout her high school years. And although Katherine went on socialize with a smaller circle of friends, most didn't stay long due to school transfers. Katherine still persevered, and kept in contact with those she liked most.
