LUCAS OLSSON: HISTORY
Lucas was raised by his mother, who was left single when the father bailed upon the discovery of her pregnancy. He had discouraged her from having the baby, but she adamantly refused, and was set on birthing Lucas from the very beginning regardless of whether she would receive support. Lucas always had a good relationship with his mother, admiring and mimicking her resilience, emotional strength and other positive traits. From a young age, he willingly began undertaking chores, and performing other tasks that would make things easier for his mother; feeling rewarded by her gratitude and happiness.
This desire to help and ease others soon spread out beyond his family-- at first just to the school teachers he was closest to, and then a much broader spectrum, as Lucas grew. However, as a child, Lucas ended up interacting more with adults than he did with his peers. Though this was never problematic (since he still got along with his peers decently), he had few friends and was exposed to a lot of adult thoughts and ideologies. This exposure continued in middle school, when he spent many hours after school waiting for his mother to finish work. During these hours, he often spent time with a young man who was studying psychology in order to become a psychiatrist. He was a friend to his mother, and another main influence on Lucas' young life. This man helped Lucas to become more interactive and patronizing with his peers.
At first, Lucas was slow to follow the advice he had been given by him, and progress was only gradual. At times, he receded back into himself, only keeping to the company of his mother and stacks of short novels. But when his mother noticed his efforts, she suggested he take on volunteer work at an aged care home to improve his social skills. After starting, Lucas worked diligently. His confidence rose as he discovered his own strong and weak points, and developed his identity and personal viewpoints. During this time, his mother found a new partner, who eventually would become her fiancée. Lucas was unsure about how to feel towards the man, and instead, continued focusing on school and volunteer work.
When differences arose between Lucas and the fiancée, their relationship grew tense. Lucas had accepted him as the head of family, and didn't challenge this, since he knew his mother's feelings for him were true. But being a rich businessman of high class with high expectations, he was always very stern towards Lucas, and at times dictated Lucas' schedule. This controlling attitude immediately rubbed Lucas the wrong way, but he still remained passive towards him.
Entering high school, Lucas adapted to the new lifestyle that his soon-to-be step-father brought with him. Having finally overcome the last of his socialization hurdles in the past year, Lucas spent much more time around his peers. He quickly learned the ins and outs of social dance, and had no significant troubles whatsoever from there onwards. In his final years, he volunteered less in favour of focusing completely on his studies (and was under pressure to do so by his mother's fiancée). He passed with flying colours, but during his finals the tension between the two grew worse. From there onwards, Lucas felt that there was officially an unspoken, ongoing struggle for the upper-hand between himself and his honorary father figure. Despite his mother's best attempts at nullifying the situation, the differences between the two males were too significant. But all the same, they never had a single fight-- not one outright verbal argument. The situation was merely tense, and sometimes uncomfortable.
Before Lucas went to university, his mother and her fiancée finally married. For a time, things were the most peaceful they had been in a long while. But tension soon flared up again afterwards once Lucas began studying in university. Once Lucas was out of the household, he was free to act more true to himself, and speak more openly. This forthright behaviour tended to rub his step-father the wrong way during the times that they spoke, and his stepfather would often criticize any choices he disagreed with. Lucas' growing desire to outdo his step-father remained present throughout his studies, further motivating him to do his best and succeed.
During his time at university, his mother happened across information regarding his blood father, and other half-siblings. After sharing the list with Lucas, they both came to realise that the registered town address of one of his half-siblings was relatively nearby. With some degree of searching, and a lot of jumping through hoops, Lucas was able to track down his half-brother, Adel. Although Adel was at first reluctant and unwilling to speak with anyone related to their father, the two eventually got to know each other. Satisfied with being on good terms, the two kept in contact and settled on visiting every month or two.
