TOM: HISTORY
Tom was raised to deal with the supernatural from a young age, like all the other members of his family of exorcists. Around his young teens, Tom was given a clean cut choice: become an exorcist, like most other members of the family, or choose his own path and pursue a normal career. Having no other talents, Tom joined his family members in training without giving it any second thoughts. He liked being able to help people who were being terrorized or weighed down by lingering spirits, and savoured the feeling of purpose it gave him.
As he grew older, he began taking on more exorcist jobs by himself; travelling further distances across the country for exorcism work. This boosted his confidence and extroversion, since he hadn't gotten as much social experience as a normal teen his age would have via school.
Throughout his travels, he met Daniel by chance in a graveyard, far from both their home cities. After discovering each other's situations and backgrounds, Tom promptly offered to help Daniel seal the violent spirit he was battling; Selena Nora Holm. They travelled together for some while, chasing clues that could help them vanquish Selena. The two gradually bonded and became close via their mutual goal, and with a fair share of struggles, they defeated Selena together. Tom's nature had caused Daniel to slowly open up; and together they had found their first real, mutual friend of their lifetime. However, Tom had to split ways to return to his duties as an exorcist, and thus parted with Daniel. Although Daniel was hurt by their separation, Tom remained oblivious to his feelings.
The next time Tom saw Daniel was when he received a call, telling him to travel to Daniel's house. Knowing that something big was happening again, he came as soon as he could-- but found Sabrina in Daniel's bed when he entered the house, rather than his friend. This triggered the first of many negative reactions from Sabrina, sparking an incompatibility between her and Tom. Tom never intended to cause any sort of tension between himself and Sabrina, but found it was unavoidable without changing his own natural behaviours. In addition, the changes to Daniel's personality since he last met him in person left Tom confused and unsure about where he stood in his own relationship with Daniel. He decided not to let these facts affect him for the time being, since their friendship was still strongly valid-- instead, focusing on helping out where he could.
But regardless of what he did, Tom couldn't shake the feeling that there was no place for him in the situation that was unfolding. Even behind the scenes, during quiet moments, he felt unwelcome because of Sabrina's behavior. With this, he returned home at last, with negative feelings having taken root in his heart. The more he thought about it, the more negative and bitter he became due to his own sensitivities. The very core of his personality began to decay and change. He began taking exorcism more seriously, devoting himself to it to allow himself less time to worry and think about his personal life.
Tom kept tabs on Daniel and Sabrina's situation as best he could from afar, and showed up to lend his aid secretly in the final climax battle. He left early after performing his piece, and therefore didn't hear news of Daniel's death until much later. Tom was riddled with grief and regret for the following two years, which he "medicated" with work and isolation from everyone he knew. Although his relatives were worried, Tom pushed them aside with the exception of one of his cousins, Veila Edevane. He shared a small part of his worries with her, and she was able to help guide him back towards stability. After making progress together with her, he decided to travel and go overseas for a while under her recommendation.
This succeeded in lifting his spirits and it prompted him to take better care of himself emotionally and physically as he journeyed east through France and Switzerland, eventually reaching Italy. In Venice, he met a young woman by the name of Leah Rovanne, who for whatever reason, made him feel grounded enough to want to stay within the city a while longer. She guided him around the city, and bit by bit they became more familiar with one another-- with Tom learning that she was a psychic, and Leah learning about his past. As supernatural events began to unfold in Venice, Tom made a firm decision to stay and help Leah in her bid to protect her city.
